Athena Developer Platform

Athena Header

Athena is an internal developer platform as a service (IDPaaS) that unifies Cloud Service Provider (CSP) tools into a single, easy-to-use control plane. It automatically applies best practices for access control, reliability, security, compliance, delivery automation, and observability, streamlining and strengthening your entire cloud architecture.

Overview

Athena is made up of different software-based operators and analysers that fulfil roles which would otherwise need to be performed by engineers, so instead they can focus time on items which provides direct value to your business.

Operators provide industry best-practices for deploying, running and managing app and cloud services and infrastructure. They remove all the effort which a platform team (DevOps, SRE, Cybersecurity) would normally have to do and provide simple configurations which are then continually re-enforced for security.

Analysers use data from the Athena and the cloud providers to help you run your services better. They monitor for issues and either fix them automatically or give you advice if manual intervention is required.

Operators

Athena operators are the main parts of our service. They help Mesoform engineers and clients follow best practices that usually require a human operator. These operators use our team's years of experience.

Before, this needed writing complex code in languages like Terraform HCL. Now, Athena makes it easy by turning that code into a simple configuration-as-data manifest.

Service Reliability Operators

Pre-built tools that streamline cloud services by bundling best practices for security, reliability, and performance.

Like simple recipes for common tasks, they make cloud technology more accessible and easier to use.

Security and Compliance Operators

SecComp Operators in Athena help ensure services and cloud resources are secure and compliant. Users can set them up in different modes: AUDIT, MONITOR, PREVENT and ENFORCE.

ENFORCE is the highest level and actively auto-corrects violating resources.

Cloud Operators

Cloud operators act as the connectors to various cloud providers. They link Athena with different CSPs, giving users a unified interface to easily deploy cloud resources, no matter which CSP they choose.

DevOps Operators

Our DevOps tools simplify and secure the software development process. They automate tasks and checks, saving time and effort for engineers and platform engineers. This allows teams to focus on building high-quality software more efficiently.

Analysers

Analysers take a more passive part of Athena. They track events on the platform and examine them all together to look for signatures of known issues. They can auto-repair issues or notify your team directly if action is required.

SIEM image

Security Information and Event Management (SIEM)

SIEM is a crucial yet often neglected aspect of online security. Athena prioritises this from the start, providing SIEM for all cloud resources deployed through its platform.

It automatically detects security threats, alerts relevant personnel, and even resolves issues when possible.

Clients can choose to handle notifications themselves or rely on our expert team for 24/7 security monitoring and response.

APM image

Cloud and Application Performance Monitoring (CAPM)

CAPM is vital for optimal online service performance. Athena integrates CAPM seamlessly from the start, covering all cloud resources and offering a unified interface for monitoring applications.

Automated issue resolution is available where possible, and alerts are sent to key personnel when incidents occur.

Additionally, our team offers a dedicated CAPM service to handle complex issues requiring manual intervention, ensuring your applications run smoothly.

What Makes Athena Different?

Traditional cloud management often places a heavy operational burden on developers, requiring deep knowledge of each cloud environment and constant vigilance over security and compliance. Athena redefines this approach by following the principles of “Shifting Down” — offloading complex operational tasks to the platform itself.

Platform Engineering, Not Developer Overload

Athena automates infrastructure management, security enforcement, and compliance monitoring so developers don’t have to.

Automated Security & Compliance

Built-in, always up-to-date security policies and compliance checks ensure your infrastructure is safe and meets regulatory requirements out of the box.

Shifting Down Operational Complexity

Instead of adding to the developer’s workload, Athena reduces it, offloading cloud complexity to the platform itself.

Unified Multi-Cloud Control

No more juggling between multiple cloud consoles. Athena provides a single pane of glass to manage workloads across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud effortlessly.

Real-Time Observability & Cost Optimisation

Monitor your application’s health, performance, and cloud costs in real-time, with actionable insights to optimise resources and spending.

No-Code Cloud-Native Deployment

Use serverless, containers, and other cloud-native technologies with zero infrastructure expertise required, thanks to Athena’s no-code deployment features.

Benefits

Advanced Features

For large clients who prefer not to share our multi-tenant platform, Athena Enterprise offers a tailored solution. You can have your own version of Athena running on your infrastructure, using its multi-cloud features for your internal teams.

Choose from two options: a fully licensed version with delivery and support on your infrastructure, or a partially deployed version connected to the main Athena platform.

Athena simplifies Cloud deployment across multiple service providers (CSPs). Instead of choosing a CSP, users provide details about their IT service, such as:

  • The type of app being deployed
  • Required technologies (e.g., databases, message buses)
  • Regulatory constraints
  • Expected usage, growth and budget
  • Geographical service locations

Athena creates a deployment plan, selects the best CSP and region, and estimates costs. Users review and approve. Over time, users can allow Athena to fully manage deployments, even switching CSPs daily for the best prices.

Coeus uses Athena's data to help users by:

  • Recommending the best security policies from our library.
  • Creating new security policies if needed.
  • Suggesting solutions for issues based on event logs and deployment data.
  • Providing vulnerability warnings and automatic fixes.
  • Sending cyber attack warnings and automatic responses using signals and models from Athena's cloud and app event logs.
